Terms

Hangar Flying is run by Whiskey Victor LLC ("we", "us"). These terms cover hangarflying.com, the Panel Designer, MRO (mro.hangarflying.com), the tools, and anything else we offer under the Hangar Flying name (together, "the site"). By opening an account or using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

They include disclaimers, a limit on our liability, your duty to cover us for misuse, and arbitration of disputes. Please read those parts.

Your account

You must be 13 or older (16 or older where your country's law sets that age). If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you, and any subscription must be bought by an adult. Give accurate information, keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if your account is compromised; until you do, you are responsible for what is done under it. One person, one account: do not sell, trade or share accounts. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

Acceptable use

  • Do not break the law with the site, or use somebody else's account without permission.
  • Do not send spam or advertisements through the site, or harvest addresses from it.
  • Do not automate access to the site, except indexing by public search engines.
  • Do not upload malicious code, or content that is illegal, offensive, harmful or that infringes somebody's rights.
  • Do not post another person's confidential or personal information without their permission.
  • Do not imply that we endorse you or are affiliated with you without our written consent.
  • Do not use the Panel Designer only to take our panel templates. A design with fewer than three instruments cannot be exported, shared or sent to our shop.

We may investigate violations, cooperate with law enforcement, remove content, and suspend or deny access.

What you create here

You keep ownership of what you create or upload on the site: panel designs, exported pictures, equipment lists, the equipment and templates you add, photographs, documents and messages.

You give Whiskey Victor LLC a permanent, worldwide right, with no royalty owed, to use, copy, adapt, display, publish, analyze, license and sell what you create on the site, for any purpose, including the Featured panels, our advertising and social media, and statistics and reports. We do this without your name, email address, account, or aircraft registration attached. This right continues after you delete the content or close your account, for copies, pictures, statistics and other works already made.

You confirm that you have the right to submit what you submit, including photographs, and that it does not infringe anybody's rights.

This section does not apply to your payment details, or to the aircraft maintenance records you or your shop keep in MRO. Those are used only to provide the service to you, as described under Privacy.

Exported and shared pictures are public

A picture you export or share from the Panel Designer is stored at a public web address. Anyone who has that address, or finds it, can open the picture without signing in. Recent shared designs are shown on our home page and Featured panels page, labeled with the aircraft model only. Do not put anything on a panel picture that you would not want public.

Statistics and market data

We compile statistics from activity on the site: for example, which aircraft people design panels for, which manufacturers' products are placed together, how designs change over time, and how many people go on to export a design or send one to our shop. We may publish, license or sell these statistics to manufacturers, dealers, researchers and others. They are counts of groups of people. They never include your name, email address, account, aircraft registration or the name you gave a design, and small groups are left out so that no figure points to one person.

Subscriptions and payments

  • Placing and deleting instruments in the Panel Designer needs no subscription. The other designer tools need a Premium subscription.
  • A subscription is charged once a year, in advance, through Stripe, and renews automatically each year at the price then in effect until you turn renewal off.
  • You can turn renewal off at any time under My account → Subscriptions. Your subscription then runs to the end of the year you paid for and ends. Nothing more is charged.
  • You can remove your card at any time. Removing your only card turns renewal off; the page tells you the date your subscription runs to before you confirm.
  • Payments are not refunded for a year already begun, except where the law requires it. If something went wrong with a charge, write to us and we will put it right.
  • Promotional codes and complimentary subscriptions are at our discretion and may have their own conditions.

Work done by our shop

CAD, Cut, Paint & Label sends a finished design to our shop, Aircraft Instrument Panels, a separate business, to be drawn in CAD, cut, coated and engraved. Our shop receives the design with its equipment list, your name and contact details, your note and your messages, and prices its own work; it does not sell or price the equipment. You may accept, ask for changes, or decline. The work, price, schedule and warranty are between you and Aircraft Instrument Panels. Hangar Flying receives a commission from it on accepted work.

The equipment list of a design is for your own use. We do not send it to avionics dealers, and we do not sell avionics.

Aviation disclaimer

Nothing on the site is approved data, engineering, or advice on airworthiness.

  • A panel layout, dimension, template, cutout, weight, price or equipment list from the Panel Designer is a planning aid. Templates and instrument dimensions are contributed by members and manufacturers and may be wrong. Measure your own panel and your own equipment before anything is cut, and have the installation done and approved as the regulations for your aircraft require.
  • MRO is a record-keeping tool. Lists of airworthiness directives, service documents, inspections and items coming due are aids drawn from public and manufacturer sources, and may be incomplete, late or mismatched to your aircraft. The owner or operator remains responsible for the aircraft's airworthiness and records, and the person performing or approving maintenance remains responsible for that work (14 CFR parts 39, 43 and 91). Check the FAA's own records and the manufacturer's current publications.
  • Documents and manuals shown on the site may not be the current revision. Use the manufacturer's current data for any maintenance.
  • Where the site reads a photograph, a data plate or a logbook page by machine, the result is a proposal for you to check against the original, not a record until you confirm it.
  • Help articles, featured designs and anything else published on the site are for information. They are not instructions for continued airworthiness or operating data, and must not be relied on for flight planning or safety.

Our content

The site, its software, its design, the panel templates and the instrument catalog (other than what members contributed) belong to us and are protected by law. We give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable permission to use the site for its purpose. You may not copy, scrape, redistribute or build a competing product from it.

No warranty

The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law permits, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. We do not promise the site will be uninterrupted or that your data will never be lost; keep your own copies of anything important.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law permits, Whiskey Victor LLC and its owners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or use. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater.

Your responsibility to us

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Whiskey Victor LLC from claims, damages and expenses arising from your use of the site, what you submit to it, or your breach of these terms.

Disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Colorado. Except for claims that must be brought in court (such as enforcing intellectual property), disputes will be resolved by binding arbitration under the AAA Consumer Rules in Denver, Colorado. You waive the right to take part in a class action. An arbitration award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.

General

If a provision is unenforceable it is changed only as far as needed to make it enforceable. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. Not enforcing a provision does not waive it. We may assign our rights; you may not assign yours without our written consent. If you meet a barrier to accessibility on the site, tell us and we will work to remove it.

Changes

We may change these terms and this privacy notice. The effective date at the top changes when we do, and we announce significant changes by email or on the site. Using the site after a change means you accept it.

Privacy

This part says what we collect, what we do with it, who else receives it, and how long we keep it. We do not sell or rent personal information.

What we collect

  • Your account. On hangarflying.com: name, email address, username, password (stored only as a one-way hash), your aircraft, home airport, city, state, ZIP and country, how you heard of us, and optionally a business name, street address and phone number. We record your internet (IP) address when you register and the date you last signed in. On MRO: your email address, and whatever else you choose to add (name, company, phone, address, mechanic certificate number); your IP address and browser are recorded with each sign-in.
  • What you create. Panel designs, exported pictures, equipment lists, the equipment and templates you upload, and your requests and messages to our shop. In MRO: aircraft, installed equipment and serial numbers, maintenance records with the signer's name and certificate number, discrepancies, inspections, times, notes, photographs, documents and logbook scans.
  • People a shop enters. A maintenance shop using MRO may enter its customers' names, email addresses, phone numbers and addresses. If a shop entered you, the shop is responsible for having told you; write to us and we will point you to the shop or help you directly.
  • Payments. Your card goes from your browser straight to Stripe; it never reaches our servers. We keep your Stripe customer number, the card type and last four digits, your billing name and address, your subscription and your invoices.
  • Problem reports. When you press Report a problem in the designer we receive what you wrote, a picture of your canvas, the page address, your browser and screen size, and the layout of the design, and it is emailed to our administrators.
  • Sponsor ads and short links. When a sponsor's ad is shown to you or you click it, or you follow one of our short links, we record your account if you are signed in, your device type, language and the page you came from, to count views and clicks for the sponsor. We stopped recording IP addresses with these in September 2026. Sponsors receive counts, not your identity.
  • Visits. We count visits ourselves, without cookies and without Google Analytics: which pages are viewed, which site a visitor came from, whether it was a computer, tablet or phone, and for how many minutes somebody was active (a page notes once a minute that you moved, typed or scrolled; nothing about what you typed). To tell one visitor from another for a day we use a one-way code made from the date, your IP address and your browser; it changes every day, the IP address itself is not kept, and it cannot be turned back into one. When you are signed in, the time you were last active is recorded with your account. MRO counts nothing.
  • Errors and logs. When something breaks, an error report (without your personal details) goes to Sentry. Server logs, which can include IP addresses, are kept for about a week.

Cookies

A notice at the foot of hangarflying.com tells you that the site uses cookies, and using the site means you accept them. We set a session cookie to keep you signed in (and a "remember me" cookie if you choose it), and on MRO a cookie for light or dark appearance. We set no analytics or advertising cookies. Google reCAPTCHA protects our sign-up and contact forms from bots and receives your IP address when it runs.

What we use it for

To provide the site and your account; to take payment; to answer you; to send you the emails below; to keep the site secure and prevent abuse; to count what is used so we can improve it; to compile the anonymous statistics described in the Terms; and to meet legal obligations.

Email

We send account email (verification, password reset, sign-in links, receipts, messages about your requests and records, and reminders you set up in MRO). We also send occasional site news; turn it off under Account settings or with the one-click link in any announcement. We do not use an outside mailing-list company.

Who else receives something

  • Amazon Web Services hosts the site, stores files and backups, and sends our email.
  • Stripe processes payments.
  • Google receives reCAPTCHA checks, and your IP address when your browser loads fonts and scripts that hangarflying.com takes from Google and other public libraries (Font Awesome, cdnjs, jsDelivr).
  • Sentry receives error reports.
  • Anthropic provides the artificial-intelligence reading we use. A question you type into Help is sent to it to be answered; it is not stored by us and nothing about your account goes with it. In MRO, photographs of data plates and the logbook pages you upload to be read are sent to it, along with part and manufacturer names; logbook pages can show names, signatures and certificate numbers. We do not store what is sent beyond the result you see.
  • Our shop receives your CAD, Cut, Paint & Label request, with your name and contact details, when you send one.
  • A default avatar service (ui-avatars.com) receives your name to draw your initials if you have not uploaded a picture.
  • We disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect rights, safety and security, and would transfer it with the business if Hangar Flying were ever sold.

Public records we hold

MRO keeps a copy of public FAA data, including the aircraft registry, which lists each registered owner's name and address. It is shown to signed-in people looking up an aircraft, as the FAA publishes it.

Who at Hangar Flying can see your data

Our administrators can see account details and what you create, and on hangarflying.com can sign in as you, to give support and fix problems. A shop you share an aircraft or a design with sees what you shared. A shop's customer sees only their own aircraft.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

  • We keep your account and what you create while your account is open. Deleting a design in the Panel Designer erases it; pictures already exported, and statistics and other works already made, are kept.
  • To close your account and have your personal information deleted, write to us from the account's email address. We remove it from active systems; it leaves our backups as they expire (about 90 days).
  • Signed maintenance records in MRO are permanent. The regulations require maintenance records to be kept and to stay with the aircraft, so a signed entry cannot be changed or deleted by anyone. When an account that signed entries is removed, the account is blanked, and the signer's name and certificate number on those entries remain.
  • Records of ad views, clicks and short-link visits, and financial records, are kept as long as we need them for reporting, tax and disputes.

Where it is processed

In the United States. If you use the site from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, whose data-protection law may differ from yours.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or the California privacy laws) you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to our use of it, receive a copy, withdraw consent, and complain to your data-protection authority. We do not sell personal information. To use any of these rights, write to us; we will confirm it is you before acting.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have, we delete it. A parent or guardian who believes a child has opened an account can write to us.
