Terms of service

Hangar Flying is run by Whiskey Victor LLC (“we”, “us”). These terms cover hangarflying.com and everything we offer there under the Hangar Flying name: the Panel Designer, the Builders Log, MRO (maintenance records), the Marketplace, Hangar Debrief, the tools, and anything we add (together, “the site”). By opening an account or using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

They include disclaimers, a limit on our liability, your duty to cover us for misuse, and arbitration of disputes. Please read those parts.

You must be 13 or older (16 or older where your country’s law sets that age). If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you, and any membership must be bought by an adult.

One account signs you in to every part of the site. An account is one person at one email address, with a password; keep it to yourself. If you forget your password we email a link that lets you choose a new one, so whoever controls that mailbox can take control of the account. Keep the address current and tell us if your account is compromised; until you do, you are responsible for what is done under it. On a computer you share, choose the shared-computer option when you sign in, and sign out when you are done. Do not sell, trade or share accounts.

A shop account is opened by one person on behalf of the shop. That person is responsible for the people they let use it and for the customers they add. Entering a customer’s email address gives that customer read-only sight of their own aircraft’s records, so enter only addresses you are entitled to use.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

• Do not break the law with the site, or use somebody else’s account without permission.
• Do not send spam or advertisements through the site, or harvest addresses from it.
• Do not automate access to the site, except indexing by public search engines.
• Do not upload malicious code, or content that is illegal, offensive, harmful or that infringes somebody’s rights.
• Do not upload anything you are not entitled to hold. A manufacturer’s manuals and service documents are the manufacturer’s; upload them only for your own use on your own aircraft or project.
• Do not post another person’s confidential or personal information without their permission.
• Do not imply that we endorse you or are affiliated with you without our written consent.
• Do not use the Panel Designer only to take our panel templates. A design with fewer than three instruments cannot be exported, shared or sent to our shop.
• Do not keep records in MRO for an aircraft you do not own, operate or maintain, or that a customer has not brought to you.
• Do not try to get into an account that is not yours, read records that are not yours, or interfere with the site or its servers.

We may investigate violations, cooperate with law enforcement, remove content, and suspend or deny access.

You keep ownership of what you create or upload on the site: panel designs, exported pictures, equipment lists, the equipment and templates you add, build log entries, Marketplace listings, photographs, documents and messages.

You give Whiskey Victor LLC a permanent, worldwide right, with no royalty owed, to use, copy, adapt, display, publish, analyze, license and sell what you create on the site, for any purpose, including the Featured panels, our advertising and social media, and statistics and reports. We do this without your name, email address, account, or aircraft registration attached. This right continues after you delete the content or close your account, for copies, pictures, statistics and other works already made.

You confirm that you have the right to submit what you submit, including photographs, and that it does not infringe anybody’s rights.

This section does not apply to:

• your payment details;
• the aircraft maintenance records you or your shop keep in MRO;
• a manufacturer’s manuals or other documents you upload that belong to somebody else;
• private messages between a buyer and a seller in the Marketplace.

Those are used only to provide the service to you, as described in the privacy notice.

A Marketplace listing is different in one way: while it is live it is public with the details you entered, as described under The Marketplace below.

A picture you export or share from the Panel Designer is stored at a public web address. Anyone who has that address, or finds it, can open the picture without signing in. Recent shared designs are shown on our home page and Featured panels page, labeled with the aircraft model only. Do not put anything on a panel picture that you would not want public.

We compile statistics from activity on the site: for example, which aircraft people design panels for, which manufacturers’ products are placed together, how designs change over time, how many people go on to export a design or send one to our shop, and what aircraft and parts are offered and at what prices in the Marketplace. We may publish, license or sell these statistics to manufacturers, dealers, researchers and others. They are counts of groups of people. They never include your name, email address, account, aircraft registration or the name you gave a design, and small groups are left out so that no figure points to one person.

• One membership is to cover every app on the site. Today it is what opens the Panel Designer’s tools. The price is shown on the membership page, hangarflying.com/membership, before you pay.
• Every tool for 14 days, with no card asked. A new account has every tool in every part of the site for 14 days from the day it is opened. An account opened before 15 Oct 2026 has every tool for four weeks from its first visit after that day. Nothing is charged unless you choose to become a member.
• After that, without a membership, everything you made in the Panel Designer stays in your account and you can open it and look at it. Changing, saving and exporting a design need a membership.
• MRO and the Builders Log are under test, and the site marks them “Under test”. While they are, they are open to every account at no charge, member or not. When one comes out of test the membership will cover it; we will say so here, and tell members, before that changes.
• The Marketplace needs no membership and is not limited after an account’s 14 days: reading, searching, saving searches and writing to sellers are open to every account. Placing a listing is at no charge until January 1, 2027; see The Marketplace below.
• We email a new account three days before its 14 days end and again when they have ended, and we may email any account about its membership.
• A membership is charged once a year, in advance, through Stripe, and renews automatically each year at the price then in effect until you turn renewal off.
• You can turn renewal off at any time from My membership, in the account menu. Your membership then runs to the end of the year you paid for and ends. Nothing more is charged.
• You can remove your card at any time. Removing your only card turns renewal off; the page tells you the date your membership runs to before you confirm.
• Payments are not refunded for a year already begun, except where the law requires it. If something went wrong with a charge, write to us and we will put it right.
• Promotional codes and complimentary memberships are at our discretion and may have their own conditions.

CAD, Cut, Paint & Label sends a finished design to our shop, Aircraft Instrument Panels, a separate business, to be drawn in CAD, cut, coated and engraved. Our shop receives the design with its equipment list, your name and contact details, your note and your messages, and prices its own work; it does not sell or price the equipment. You may accept, ask for changes, or decline. The work, price, schedule and warranty are between you and Aircraft Instrument Panels. Hangar Flying receives a commission from it on accepted work.

The equipment list of a design is for your own use. We do not send it to avionics dealers, and we do not sell avionics.

• We are not a party to any sale. The Marketplace is a place to list and to find aircraft, parts and equipment. A sale is between the buyer and the seller. We do not inspect, hold, ship or guarantee anything listed, we hold no money for either side, and we do not check a seller’s ownership or a buyer’s ability to pay.
• If you list something, you confirm that you own it or are authorized to sell it, that what you say about it is true to the best of your knowledge, including its times, its damage history and its records, and that selling it is lawful.
• A live listing is public. Anyone can open it without signing in and see what you entered: the description, the price, the city, state and airport, the photographs, documents and video, and the registration and serial numbers if you entered them. You are shown by your first name, or by your business name if you are a dealer. A telephone number is shown only if you enter one, and then to anyone who opens the listing, signed in or not. Your email address is never shown.
• Messages stay on the site. A buyer writes to a seller through the site; neither sees the other’s email address. You must be signed in to write. A seller may block a buyer.
• We may post live listings elsewhere to bring buyers to them, for example on the Hangar Flying Marketplace page on Facebook, with the title, price and main photograph.
• Listings are kept. When a listing is sold, withdrawn, ended or deleted it is no longer shown, but we keep it, with its prices, as a record of what was offered and at what price. See the privacy notice.
• Charges. Reading, searching, saving searches and writing to sellers need no membership and carry no charge. Placing a listing carries no charge until January 1, 2027. From then a listing has a price, shown before you place or renew it; nothing is charged that you did not agree to.
• We may remove a listing or a question, and close the account behind it, if it breaks these terms or the law, or misleads.
• Buying. Inspect before you buy. For an aircraft, have a pre-purchase inspection done by a mechanic you choose, read the aircraft’s records yourself, and check the FAA registry and any liens. Nothing in a listing is a statement by us about airworthiness, condition, title or value.

Nothing on the site is approved data, engineering, or advice on airworthiness.

• A panel layout, dimension, template, cutout, weight, price or equipment list from the Panel Designer is a planning aid. Templates and instrument dimensions are contributed by members and manufacturers and may be wrong. Measure your own panel and your own equipment before anything is cut, and have the installation done and approved as the regulations for your aircraft require.
• MRO is a record-keeping tool. It does not determine whether an aircraft is airworthy and it does not approve anything for return to service. Lists of airworthiness directives, service documents, inspections and items coming due are aids drawn from public and manufacturer sources, and may be incomplete, late or mismatched to your aircraft. The owner or operator remains responsible for the aircraft's airworthiness and records (14 CFR 91.403), the person performing or approving maintenance remains responsible for that work (14 CFR 43.9, 14 CFR 43.11), and the pilot in command remains responsible for deciding whether the aircraft is in condition for safe flight (14 CFR 91.7). Check the FAA’s own records and the manufacturer’s current publications.
• The Builders Log is a record-keeping tool for a builder. Whether a build log satisfies the FAA or an inspector, for example to show that an aircraft is amateur-built under 14 CFR 21.191, is decided by them, not by us. The builder is responsible for what the log says.
• Documents and manuals shown on the site may not be the current revision. Use the manufacturer’s current data for any work on an aircraft.
• Where the site reads a photograph, a data plate, a label, a manual or a logbook page by machine, or suggests words for an entry from your photographs, the result is a proposal for you to check against the original. It is not a record until you confirm it. A photograph shows what was in the shop, not what work was done; only you know that.
• Help articles, featured designs and anything else published on the site are for information. They are not instructions for continued airworthiness or operating data, and must not be relied on for flight planning or safety.

• They are yours. You can download everything in your MRO account as one plain-text file at any time, from Profile, and a build log as a ZIP file with its photographs (a large log in several parts), from its Project page.
• Keep your own copy. 14 CFR 91.417 makes the owner or operator responsible for keeping maintenance records. The site is a tool for doing that, not a substitute for it. We back your records up every night, but we do not promise to be the only place they exist.
• A signed entry is permanent. A signed maintenance entry cannot be changed or deleted by anybody, including us. A signed build log entry cannot be changed; if you delete one, it is marked deleted, kept, and can be restored. A correction is a new entry that refers to the old one.
• The page you upload stays the record. What the site reads from a logbook page or photograph is a readable copy, and every transcribed entry points at the page it came from.

You can close your account at any time from Profile, in the account menu. Closing hides your aircraft and records, your build logs and your Marketplace listings, and holds them for 30 days, during which you can reopen the account by signing in. After that the account can be removed for good. Closing does not yet remove your Panel Designer designs; to have those removed, write to us.

Some things stay after an account is gone:

• Maintenance entries you signed stay in the aircraft’s records, because a signature is part of the record, the way a signature in a paper logbook outlives the mechanic who wrote it.
• An aircraft’s records belong to the account that holds the aircraft. A customer closing their own view of a shop’s records does not remove the shop’s records.
• Marketplace listings you placed are kept as described under The Marketplace, without your name.
• Pictures already exported, and statistics and other works already made, are kept.

We may close an account that breaks these terms. We may also close an account that has not signed in for a long time, after emailing it first and waiting.

The site may be unavailable at times, and it will change. We may withdraw a feature. If we ever withdraw MRO or the Builders Log we will give notice by email and time to export your records first.

The site, its software, its design, the panel templates and the instrument catalog (other than what members contributed) belong to us and are protected by law. We give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable permission to use the site for its purpose. You may not copy, scrape, redistribute or build a competing product from it, or resell access to it.

The site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law permits, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. We do not promise the site will be uninterrupted or that your data will never be lost; keep your own copies of anything important.

To the fullest extent the law permits, Whiskey Victor LLC and its owners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or use. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater. Nothing here limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Whiskey Victor LLC from claims, damages and expenses arising from your use of the site, what you submit to it, what you list or buy in the Marketplace, or your breach of these terms.

These terms are governed by the law of Colorado. Except for claims that must be brought in court (such as enforcing intellectual property), disputes will be resolved by binding arbitration under the AAA Consumer Rules in Denver, Colorado. You waive the right to take part in a class action. An arbitration award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.

If a provision is unenforceable it is changed only as far as needed to make it enforceable. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. Not enforcing a provision does not waive it. We may assign our rights; you may not assign yours without our written consent. If you meet a barrier to accessibility on the site, tell us and we will work to remove it.

We may change these terms and the privacy notice. The date at the top changes when we do, What’s new says what changed, and we announce significant changes by email or on the site. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
