Terms of service

Hangar Flying is made and run by Whiskey Victor LLC. These terms cover everything it runs: the panel designer and tools at hangarflying.com, and the maintenance records service at hangarflying.com/mro. By opening an account or using either you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use them.

The maintenance records service is under test. It is being used with real aircraft, and it is not finished. Everything it tells you should be checked against the aircraft itself and against the original document.

An account is one person at one email address, and you sign in with a password; keep it to yourself. If you forget it, or have not set one, we email you a link that lets you choose a new one — so whoever controls that mailbox can take control of the account. Keep the address current and tell us if you lose control of it. An account on one site is not yet an account on the other.

You are responsible for what is done while you are signed in. On a computer you share, choose the shared-computer option when you sign in, and sign out when you are done.

A shop account is opened by one person on behalf of the shop. That person is responsible for the people they let use it and for the customers they add. Entering a customer’s email address gives that customer read-only sight of their own aircraft’s records, so enter only addresses you are entitled to.

Hangar Flying is a place to keep maintenance records and a research aid for the work behind them. It does not determine whether an aircraft is airworthy, and it does not approve anything for return to service.

The person who signs a maintenance entry is responsible for it under 14 CFR 43.9 and 14 CFR 43.11. The owner or operator is responsible for keeping the aircraft airworthy, including compliance with airworthiness directives, under 14 CFR 91.403. The pilot in command is responsible for deciding whether the aircraft is in condition for safe flight under 14 CFR 91.7. Nothing in this service changes any of that.

Directive lists, coming-due dates, transcriptions of logbook pages and data plates, and anything else the service proposes are aids to your judgment. They can be incomplete or wrong. Check them against the source before you rely on them.

The records you enter are yours. You can export everything in your account as one plain-text file at any time, from Manage my account.

Keep your own copy. 14 CFR 91.417 makes the owner or operator responsible for keeping maintenance records, and this service is a tool for doing that, not a substitute for it. We keep your records and back them up every night, but we do not promise to be the only place they exist.

A signed maintenance entry cannot be changed or deleted by anybody, including us. That is deliberate: a maintenance record is a record. A correction is a new entry that refers to the old one.

A logbook page or photograph you upload stays the record. What the service reads from it is a readable copy, and every transcribed entry points at the page it came from.

A panel you design at hangarflying.com is yours, and the files exported from it are yours to build from. You give Hangar Flying permission to show your design, and the exports made from it, in its own advertising and on its own pages, to show what the tool can do. Your name, your aircraft’s registration and anything else that identifies you are removed first, unless you tell us you would like the credit.

If you would rather your designs never appear, tell us and they will not. Anything already printed or published before you ask stays as it is.

• Use the service for aircraft you do not own, operate or maintain, or that a customer has not brought to you.
• Upload anything you are not entitled to hold. Manufacturers’ service documents are their copyright; the service itself stores references to them, not their bodies.
• Try to get into an account that is not yours, read records that are not yours, or interfere with the service or the server it runs on.
• Copy the service’s data by machine, or resell access to it.

The maintenance records service charges nothing today. If that changes we will say so in advance, in What’s new at the foot of the Guide and by email, and nobody will be charged without first agreeing to a stated price.

Paid features at hangarflying.com are charged at the price shown when you buy them. Payments are taken by Stripe; your card details go to Stripe and never to us.

The service may be unavailable at times, and it will change. Changes that alter what you see are recorded in What’s new. We may withdraw a feature. If we ever withdraw the service itself we will give notice by email and time to export your records first.

You can close your account at any time from Manage my account. Closing hides everything and holds it through a waiting window, during which you can reopen it by signing in. After that window has run out the account can be removed for good, which frees the email address to be used again.

Maintenance entries you signed stay in the aircraft’s records after your account is gone, because a signature is part of the record, the way a signature in a paper logbook outlives the mechanic who wrote it. An aircraft’s records belong to the account that holds the aircraft: a customer closing their own view of a shop’s records does not remove the shop’s records.

We may close an account that breaks these terms. We may also close an account that has not signed in for a long time, after emailing it first and waiting.

The service is provided as it is, without any warranty that it is complete, correct, or fit for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, Whiskey Victor LLC is not liable for any loss that comes from using the service or relying on what it says, and its total liability to you is limited to what you have paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado and of the United States, and any dispute is heard in the courts of Colorado.

When these words change, the date under the title changes with them and What’s new says what changed. A change that matters is also emailed. Using the service after a change means you accept it.
