EAA will build a Zenith CH 750 Super Cruzer at AirVenture 2027, July 26 to Aug. 1

EAA's fourth One Week Wonder will turn a Zenith CH 750 Super Cruzer kit into a finished airplane at Oshkosh, starting on AirVenture's opening day, July 26, 2027, with Aug. 1 as the goal. Visitors pull rivets that go in the builders' log. Experienced homebuilders and EAA's Homebuilding Ambassadors can sign up now.

A builder who has wondered how fast a kit can become an airplane with enough hands on it can watch, and help, at Oshkosh next summer. EAA's One Week Wonder returns at AirVenture 2027, and this time the kit is Zenith's newest, the CH 750 Super Cruzer.

The plan

EAA's page says the build starts Monday, July 26, 2027, AirVenture's opening day, from a typical kit as it arrives from Zenith, and aims to finish by Sunday, Aug. 1. The airplane is to be inspected and ground run during the show.

It is built for, and goes straight to, the Aspiring Aviators Aero Club of Winter Haven, Florida. The club's president, Brian Hughes, says on EAA's page that the airplane will be a teaching tool, with students learning its operation, maintenance and flying.

This is the fourth One Week Wonder in about 15 years. EAA lists a Zenith CH 750 Cruzer kit in 2014, a Van's RV-12iS in 2018, and a build supported by Sonex Aircraft in 2022.

How to take part

There are three ways in, all on EAA's page:

  • Visitors can pull rivets in the airframe, and each one goes into the builders' log. They also get a vote on the paint scheme.
  • Experienced homebuilders can sign up with the Aspiring Aviators Aero Club to work on the airplane itself.
  • Homebuilding Ambassadors staff EAA's One Week Wonder tent, talk to visitors about homebuilding and teach them to pull rivets.

Both sign-up forms are linked from EAA's page.

The airplane

Zenith showed the Super Cruzer at AirVenture 2026. Zenith's page describes it as a cross-country version of the CH 750 family: a redesigned wing leading edge and new tail surfaces, the structure re-engineered for higher weights and speeds, and some of the load-carrying of the STOL CH 750 Super Duty, built for cruise rather than the shortest takeoff. The Cruzer seats two; the Super Cruzer seats two side by side with a jump seat behind, which Zenith calls 2 + 1.

Zenith's figures:

  • Design gross weight 1,900 pounds, 2,200 on amphibious floats; empty weight 1,100 pounds, useful load 800.
  • Engines of 140 to 230 hp, 350 pounds at most. The test airplane flies a stock 180 hp Lycoming O-360 with a Sensenich fixed-pitch propeller.
  • 48 gallons of fuel, 24 in each wing.
  • Cruise 125 mph at 75 percent power at sea level; stall 42 mph solo, 44 at gross; VNE 150 mph.

Zenith offers it as a kit for experimental amateur-built airplanes and says kits are available now. Its page sends buyers to a price and order form; it gives no price, and neither does EAA. EAA's page doesn't say which engine or avionics the One Week Wonder airplane will carry.
