Replacing, removing, or correcting a part

The old record is kept as history; the new part takes its place and is checked afresh.

Replacing is not editing. The old part’s record, the directives read against it, its notes, its photographs, is history. On the part’s card, “Replaced with a new part” marks the old one removed on that date and keeps it. The new part is recorded with its own numbers, and the directives are checked against it.

A recorded engine opened: “Edit these details”, “Removed from this aircraft”, “Replaced with a new part”, and the directives that name it.
A recorded engine opened: “Edit these details”, “Removed from this aircraft”, “Replaced with a new part”, and the directives that name it.

The other actions, on the same card:

  1. “Edit these details” corrects a wrong serial number or part number.
  2. “Removed from this aircraft” takes a part off with nothing in its place. It is kept as history, and “Reinstalled on this aircraft” puts it back if the removal was a mistake.
  3. Removed parts are listed on the Equipment page under No longer installed.
  4. “Delete” is for a part recorded by mistake. It asks for the reason.
  5. “Write up a discrepancy found on this part” starts a discrepancy report from the part.
