The Flight Log is where an aircraft’s times are recorded. It is Flights in the aircraft’s menu. Everything due on hours is counted from these times, and they are the record 14 CFR 91.417(a)(2)(i) requires.
To record the times:
- Read the meters.
- Press “Record the times”.
- Enter the total time in service, the date read, the tach and the Hobbs.
- Press “Record these times”.

Tach, Hobbs and total time in service are three different numbers and all three are kept. Hobbs usually runs from the master switch or oil pressure, so it reads higher than time in service as 14 CFR 1.1 defines it. Tach counts engine revolutions, so it runs fast or slow of both.
The times are read off the meters and typed in by a person. There is no automatic flight watch.
